I’d say a lot of people are required to use i.e. Windows by the situation, but unless you’re a slave the situation isn’t forced upon you and it’s more a matter of priorities?

I like Ubuntu derivatives, the how-to manuals are for dummies. Makes for easy readin’ 🤓
Rob is alright, but often feels like that guy trying to fix the Titanic by emptying out the water with buckets.
Here’s my solution to get rid of the Microsoft Account requirement for your computer.
It have worked flawlessly for me for years and even improves stability - I’ve not had a single Windows crash since I implemented this fix. An added bonus is that it fixed the never ending battle of disabling surveillance subsystems that are re-activated every time you update Windows (If one both knew about it and turned it off).
Highly recommended!
By accepting this and not shutting down the service/system they’ve created a precedence for their family and an example of forgivness towards digital corporate home invasion to others. That’s a small chisel to the castle walls that is the average persons home.
If one say yes to keep such a system after such an experience… Perhaps they should be banned from using digital home equipment? For their own protection I mean, they’re clearly not able to make rational decisions lol.
I’m only half joking.
My RISV-V server (I have removed all binary blobs and have no closed source code ofc) is airgapped inside a Faraday cage.
For security reasons I never turn it on.
If someone is merely considering moving away from a third-party-permission-based household after being denied using their home on seemingly false pretenses, is it reasonable to say they deserve it happening to them again?
I guess sometimes children have to play with fire to learn caution.
I’ve selv-hosted this directly from my home IP - no problem!
Of course it didn’t federate and was only open to friends and family behind an SSO portal so random visitors would never know - I’m not crazy. That would be like building a stage and send out invitations (in many ways as intended), but I used it as a warehouse and installed lockable doors!
A lot of services people would think of as “internet sites” works great with self-hosting, it’s mainly just a matter of thinking things through. People that fuck up spectacularly and get on the news for openly hosting the hottest shit to like 500 million users just for the hell of it… Those are the type of people we hear about.
We never hear about those who lay low and never get in trouble, regardless of the legality of the contents.
