  • There was a hell of a party called The Big Banger. Shit was poppin. Everything was created, from things, to location for those things to exist in, to time for those things to change through. It was really tight and hot, but as more space was created, things were able to calm and cool down, giving the opportunity for organization rather than pure chaos. After a really long time, things started to gather together because of gravity.

As things accumulated, they created large bodies. If enough things accumulated in one body, they would start to make newer more complex things and light! However, there’s a limit to how complex things can be made through gravity squeezing things together. When that limit hits, the body explodes. The force inside the explosion is so powerful, that is was able to make things more complex than gravity was able to. And, through the explosion, all these things get spread out. With the passage of more time, that stuff starts to accumulate again.

Since it’s so spread out, most of it accumulates in the middle, but some accumulates around it. It creates these cool discs of celestial bodies that lap around a huge central body. The central body, being so big, starts to make it’s less complex things into more complex just like before. This gives off light again. The smaller bodies doing the laps get pretty hot on the inside, but cooler on the outside. This creates a cyclic pattern of things moving about and mixing within the little bodies. With everything getting all mixed up and receiving light & heat from the central celestial body, the opportunity for the most complex things is present. Eventually, the perfect conditions are arise, and the things start to organize just to organize! Yep, that’s right. Things become autistic.

While things organized, their strategy is random. The ones that are best at organizing for their environment, continue to do so, while the ones that suck just don’t anymore. Through this competition of developing the best strategy, more complex things develop. At some point, one of the things begins to use the light from the big body as energy to become so complex, it can unify with other complex things, making a multicomplex things! This process continued until those things develop the capacity to have excess energy, plan, and alter their environment to help them organize even better, even if it is at the expense of other things just doing their own thing. But, it works out overall because it creates a massive system. At the peak of organization, the things release the Belgian techno-anthem Pump Up the Jam. After that (you are here ❌), they purposely destroy their environment since they reached the peak of organization and complexity, and just slowly let everything become chaotic and random until there is so much space, that time becomes meaningless.

  • Comet C/2023 A3’s coma is about 2.8 feet in diameter and the tail measures about 16.9 feet in length.

Its closest approach to Earth will be on Oct. 11 or 12, according to BBC Sky at Night. It will still be about 44 million miles away.

It’s so tiny! I’m surprised we can see something that small from such a far distance.

For observers in the Northern Hemisphere, comet C/2023 A3 can be found in the constellation Sextans and will rise one hour before the sun, according to Astronomy.com.

The comet will be visible in the Northern Hemisphere in the evening, just after sunset, when it is low in the southwestern sky.

I’m confused. Is the best time to see it just before sunrise or just after sunset??

  • People need 3 things to commit suicide:

    • social isolation
    • sense of burden
    • capacity

    Social Isolation

If the person feels alone, even if surrounded by people, they’re meeting this criterion. Loneliness is social pain because being alone was guaranteed death back in the day. Being socially isolated is literally painful.

    Sense of Burden

If the person feels that all they do is drag people down, then they may see that their existence is a drag. Match this sense of worthlessness and parasitic existence with the pain of loneliness, and the person in a dire hopeless situation. To them, there is no point to being alive. They’re in constant inescapable pain and not only contribute nothing, but they are spreading that pain onto others…at least that’s how they see it.

    Capacity

This refers to the ability for someone to be able to kill themselves. Do they have the means? Pills, car, rope, firearm? Military people in general are at higher risk because they are more likely to have firearms. But one thing that I think is overlooked is that they’ve been trained at a brainwashing level that violent killing is the ultimate solution to problems.

Regardless, not having the capacity is a major protective factor, which is why people get isolated in settings that prevent them from killing themselves. I’d like to point out how fucked up this is though. We are taking a person that is in so much pain they want to die, and placing them in a physical environment that prevents them from that. While necessary as a last resort, it’s torture.

What if when someone says their in pain, we believe them? Maybe we offer millions of other opportunities to turn their life around. And if they’re not grabbing on to those opportunities, work with them to solve those barriers. Maybe placing blame on them solely increases their sense of burden.

If you’re in pain, I believe you ♥️

    edit:

  • This makes sense given the popular knowledge at the time. The reason Columbus set sail wasn’t because he was a genius that knew the Earth was round when everyone else didn’t. We knew the Earth was round since antiquity. I can’t remember who1, but some ancient Greek had calculated the circumference of the Earth using the angle of a shadow, distance to a equinox solstice, and simple trigonometry. They guy was less than 5% off with his rudimentary calculation, which is impressive considering that he paid some dude to measure the distance between two towns by walking it. Anyways, the Western Europeans thought that Japan was farther east, somewhere around where the words “Terra florida” are on this map if I recall correctly from memory. When the Niña, Pinta, and Santa Marimba (party boat! jk, it was Santa Maria named after the “virgin”) landed on the most beautiful land that human eyes had ever seen, they knew they hadn’t landed on Zipangri/Cipangu/Japan. Instead, they thought they had landed on some island off of India, which is why they called the locals “Indios” (Indians). Anyways part 2, they thought that Japan was much further east than it was. I imagine that since they hadn’t found it for this map yet, they though it must be right out of sight of the western coast of North Vespucci (America).

What I’m curious about is that 7448 inflating archipelago. Anyone have an idea on what that’s about?

1: The dude was Eratosthenes. Thanks, @user134450@feddit.org!

  • I think I remember hearing that the Mexican cartels are even part of the production line of narcotics made from opium in OP’s post. The raw products are send to Mexico and other Latin American countries for processing, then smuggled into the US.

I don’t understand why the US government doesn’t solve the problem. It seems to me that it would be quite simple. Legalize drug use, criminalize distribution, provide amazing free and non-judgmental drug abuse therapy that includes medically minimizing withdrawals and long-term sobriety so that benefits of completing rehab would overwhelmingly attract and keep people dependent on drugs engaged with treatment through to completion and sobriety. We’d also need to get rid of the idea that once someone is an “addict”, they are an addict for life. This would help people feel that coming to therapy for drug use doesn’t automatically mark them for life. It would be a bit expensive up front, but in the long run, we’d save so much money in the criminal justice system, customs, and healthcare. Not to mention, increased productivity from a healthier workforce and quality of life would increase drastically, not for the drug users, but their families and communities. There’s also the bonus of creating tons of jobs in drug rehab for a while, both treatment and research. And as is well-known, research in one field often has beneficial unexpected benefits for other fields, such as when Pavlov was studying salivation in dogs created an entire branch of psychology (behaviorism), which coincidentally, happens to have major applications in drug use treatment.

This is such an easy win for politicians on both sides if they would sell it properly. Republicans would look great to their base for doing something about drug abuse that is hurting rural America, reducing immigration issues, lowering crime, and tickling their anti-Mexican racism. Democrats would look great to their base for enacting caring government programs, reducing criminalization, and being effective at something. It would also help relations with Mexico. It’s a win-win-win for everyone. I can’t figure the cons.
