Thanks! I’m not sure I’ll be using many of Vivaldi’s features but it’s nice to know they’re a good option. I’ll stick with Brave for now. Too many features scare me.

Oof… then it might not be the browser. Maybe an extension?
Hope it works!
Have you tried a chromium browser? I haven’t tried browsing lemmy on FF yet, but I never had that issue on chromium (Brave).
Not yet, at least. I’ve seen a few posts about it and I agree it’s an important feature. I hope the devs are seriously considering to add it.
Honestly, Jerboa in alpha is already better than the official reddit app for me. It’s no TPA reddit app, but the number of contributors (in github) has risen by a lot so I’m expecting/hoping development will pick up and it’ll get better fast.
I appreciate the community the most in here. They’ve been very welcoming and minimal, if any, toxicity.
Like someone has said, we’re in a privacy-oriented sub so it’s natural (expected even) to expect the hate. Edge/MS really is bad in terms of privacy. So I get the hate.
With that said, privacy concerns aside, I have to agree that its reputation is worse than it really is. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it, but my standard was IE so it wasn’t really saying much lol. It’s getting bad with unnecessary features, though.
As for being better than FF… well, of course in terms of privacy FF is still better imho. However, I rely on chromium-based browsers for work. Some internal sites I use for work simply don’t play well with FF. I do have Brave, but I sometimes use Edge as well.
Is there a good chromium browser anyone can recommend? Is Brave the best privacy-wise? Vivaldi?
I tried reinstalling the update and it became laggy for me. I just force stopped it then cleared cache. It’s working smooth now.
I used power delete and it sent me a backup. Idk what to do with it yet.
Same. It’s not about the app anymore. It’s about reddit itself.
Let’s put it this way:
Spez, reddit’s ceo, used to mod r/jailbait. Did it matter to the users? It didn’t. Why should this be any different?
Also, this is a public platform as much as reddit is. Reddit’s TOS is horrible and yet people stayed. Lemmy is not worse than reddit in terms of privacy. I had to use a script/program before deleting my reddit accounts because reddit won’t delete what’s in there.
I didn’t see those. My bad!
Privacy is non-existent on reddit anyway, just because lemmy is imperfect there doesn’t mean it’s any worse than reddit, and this is a public forum, there’s no privacy anyway.
Completely agree. Just look at reddit’s TOS. They own your data. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t stop people from raising it as if reddit is a bastion of privacy and security.
I’ve also seen concerns about privacy and politics. It’d be great if you addressed that, too. I’d love to send you an upvote but I deleted all my accounts. 😅
Tildes is the only other alternative that I know besides lemmy. It’s more focused on discussion, as you probably know. Personally, though, I doubt it can scratch my reddit itch. I do enjoy discussions, but I also need my “nonsense stuff” fix like memes. I do like what they’re trying to do. I think they’re a good complementary site to lemmy if someone is ditching reddit altogether.
It’s over. Reddit is done. Lemmy has porn now. Lol. Jk.
I completely agree. Reddit has shown no indication of backing down. They will just wait for it to finish if the lockdown is as short as ~48 hours. If a major/big sub goes on lockdown indefinitely, they’ll open it and replace the mods. I’m pretty sure there are tons of people out there willing to mod a big subreddit like r/videos for one reason or another. The reddit of the digg migration era is gone. It’s just corporate reddit now.
For me, the way Fediverse is set up just highlighted the dangers of centralization, at least for social media. It’s hard to have all your eggs in a basket controlled by a single entity that has virtually unlimited power to do what it wants with it. Fediverse isn’t perfect, but in some aspects it’s just better.
Nvm. I was dumb. Loving the update!
I was using the Play Store version before switching to this. In my inbox, the feature to go directly to the message has disappeared, as well as being able to mark messages as read individually. Now I have to tap on the post name to go to the post instead of the message.
Not complaining, but that feature was useful to me. For an alpha, Jerboa is doing great.
