In terms of driver development it’s more collaborating than just Windows releasing an API and the manufacturers creating the drivers. Bug reports from large manufacturers are absolutely taken seriously. Customers usually never see this interaction.
I would say maybe 1990-2010 was really a dominant time for Windows and that was also when they were actively improving, but now they have plenty of competition. It’s just that people have moved away from desktops. Mobile platforms are now an existential threat. Fewer and fewer people are buying desktops to begin with. Maybe Microsoft has given up on desktops and that’s why they’re making Windows worse.
I’m not sure Windows is a good example here since they’re historically well known for backwards compatibility and fixing obscure bugs for specific hardware.
Whereas Linux famously always had driver support issues.

I’ve seen Figma provide CSS values but I think it’s main purpose is designers can use it to create UX specs that devs can then implement. It’s definitely more convenient to make mocks in than using HTML and CSS directly. It also seems more popular than the Adobe option but it’s also super not free

That’s what I feel. Like frames seem to get mixed together and I have to do a manual refresh. But this is also how I can build castles in the clouds.
Yeah this is my goto time killer on the phone or tablet if I’m traveling. No need for an Internet connection so great on a plane.
It’s more akin to a plugin since it doesn’t change the code at all.
If it’s something I don’t really want to do then it’s 1.5x my current salary assuming 8 hours of work per day.
I originally switched because there was still a small flagship iPhone. However I stayed because it works just fine and iMessage worked better than SMS for whatever that time period was before people moved to other messaging apps.
Now I use an Android phone for work and don’t really see enough advantage for me to switch.

Olympus E-M1 and I’ve basically just keep my 40-150 2.8 on it. I like to catch wildlife but it’s just useful to have since the range is not easily achievable by cell phones yet.
