If you were to combine multiple AI algorithms similar in power to LLM but designed to do math, logic and reason, and then add some kind of memory, you probably get much further towards AGI. I do not believe we’re as far from this as people want to believe, and think that sentience is on a scale.

But it would still not be anchored to reality without some control over a camera and the ability to see and experience reality for itself. Even then it wouldn’t understand empathy as anything but an abstract concept.

My guess is that eventually we’ll create a kind of “AGI compiler” with a prompt to describe what kind of mind you want to create, and the AI compiler generates it. A kind of “nursing AI”. Hopefully it’s not about profit, but a prompt about it learning to be friends with humans and genuinely enjoy their company and love us.

Yeah long term endurance hunting sounds like “bad hunting”. You use up more calories, the prey expends more calories, you waste a whole day walking around in dangerous terrain and then you have to carry back the meat all the way back.

So even if their claims of greater female stamina bears out this would presumably only show that women can hunt better in certain worst case disciplines.

Yeah exploring for asteroid mining and the asteroid belt being 2-3 AU from the sun, you have 4 to 9 times less solar pressure. But you could still accelerate closer to the sun and then swing out. I imagine tiny cube sats with cheap solar sails could do much of the work there. Anyway, exciting times!

PS: Now I wonder if assembling these solar sails with lightweight girders in orbit on a space station would be worth it. The spooling mechanism is awesome but if you could just send it up dis-assembled and assemble it in space they could probably be more efficient.

Oh wow interesting. So using LCD is more efficient in weight than using motors to tilt the sails? Or maybe the advantage is not having to counter any sail movement with gyroscopes… which cost energy too.
