I wonder if it’ll apply to people who post outright racist things? Ecne if it doesn’t, all the people who get to establish a general consensus that free speech on politics will be allowed will make a lot of room for such people.

Great information there - really wish that there were more objective sources researching this, but they will not even touch these topics.

They are verboten.

This is the sort of thing people talked about in the 90s and before the mid-2000s because it was some real issue and people had no idea that the marketplace was going to making it so that I would have to actively make choices to avoid having the internet in my pocket at all times for an affordable price.

This is also the case for kids, which has created a world of social ills.

But they still harp about concepts like universal internet access as a front for policies that benefit their cronies.

it could even be treated like a sort of human rights issue - you just have the right to share content from websites via links, and whatever stupid laws about how you owe us money now…! are invalid.

It’s also so weird because there are these laws in place that allow us to cite portions of things without having to pay for anything. I think it’s even up to something like 25% of a publication that can be republished just for the purpose of citing it or criticizing it…

Wild that at this point you just won’t be able to share links.

I see how this could be really great if a site got up and we had a lot of consenting artists releasing their material for free. There’s a lot of potential. But I also see agree with @Owner_of_donky@donky.social – it’s a recipe for otherwise getting wrecked by legal problems as people upload copyrighted music.

I’pll consider putting some old podcast stuff I have done up there at some point, and if I ever do podcasting seriously again, definitely I would host it through the fediverse.

Absolutely agreed - we need to actively be abandoning the platforms they hand to us.
