Thank you, that was a really good explanation!

I never installed Linux myself, only used it for a bit, so what do you have to do to not be a complete noob? This is only a half serious question, but what do you think you have to do, to be a proficient Linux user? This sounds a bit like when I got my master’s degree and did not have the feeling that I know anything or have learned valuable skills, but to someone with only a high school diploma I would look rather proficient.
I am not an expert either, but maybe by something like this? Maybe we see two images of the same galaxy but nothing obstructing our view to explain the gravitational lensing, so maybe it’s topological defects?
I don’t follow American politics very closely, who is this RFK guy and between Biden and Trump, how bad is he?
I am currently deciding wether to use librewolf or floorp, do you by chance have an opinion on that?
I have ADHD and don’t know if I am smart, I am just really good at the stuff that interests me and struggle really hard with everything else. Fortunately my jobs interests me and I now know how to get into the flow. But other stuff like paper work is still incredibly hard for me. Now that I have it more or less under control I would not want to change, as I love the occasional fixation on new ideas in and outside of work.
For example on the one hand I did a PhD in my field of interest and it went really smooth, but on the other hand I struggle to brush my teeth every day…
Not OP, but I copy my reply from the last time someone asked an opinion on kagi:
I use it, but to be honest I did not do a comprehensive comparison. I like it mostly for the fine grained website control. For work and some personal stuff I often look for code and can push websites like GitHub to appear more often. Or I can block Pinterest in my search results. I tried to do this in SearXNG, but this was too much of a hassle so in a way I pay kagi for convenience. I recently got a new job and will evaluate in the coming months if it is still worth the money, but right now I am satisfied. Nobody else I know would pay for a search engine, so I can understand the stance, but I am really fed up with all the advertising and enshitification so I thought why not give it a try. And yes, because it was recommended here.
RedReader also still works due to their disability stuff.
Why not just let call sounds on and the other off? I have the call sound on so I can search for my phone and hear when someone calls me. All other sounds, like notification sounds are off. Nowadays only my parents are calling me, every other person just texts me, so this works for me, but depends on your circumstances.
I only watch movie and game trailers on YouTube, so yes, it would not bother me if they would be bankrupt tomorrow.
The most annoying thing for me is that Firefox is reloading the current tab if I switch apps and then back to Firefox. Why is this not saved somehow and needs to reload the whole page?
I have been looking for a job for 4 months now and have never used LinkedIn to search. I had very good experiences with Google for Jobs, where I could set up alerts for certain search terms and the radius in which I was searching, whereby you can also exclude cities if necessary. This meant I didn’t have to use another job board, I only used it for forwarding. Since the last rework, Google for Jobs almost always finds the company websites with the job advertisments directly, so I no longer have to look at job boards at all, a very pleasant experience. I used LinkedIn once to test it and all that came up was generic crap, it’s unbelievable how a site that’s supposed to be about professional life can be so sub-par at finding jobs. And just to conclude this post, I successfully found a job with this method.
Is there a good reason they won’t get acceptance?
Could instead reverse osmosis remove those particles and be used as consumer products?
Maybe a dumb question, but is there a fat industry which could have lobbied against the sugar industry?
The German word for zipper is literally “tear/rip fastener” (Reißverschluss)
What does poisoning DNS queries mean?
My fitness gym (Germany) has subscriptions, but there is also one that can be canceled monthly, which is offered at a discount, especially at the beginning of the year, because of the new year resolutions, so people who regret it can cancel quickly. It is still available later in the year, but is then about 20% more expensive than if you enter into a contract for 12 months, which is still billed monthly and not all at once at the beginning. There is also a student discount that saves you around €200 a year. You can cancel online or on site, I’ve already done it once and it went without a hitch. So it seems to be a bit more convenient here than with OP. Although I would love a prepaid option as you describe.
I am starting with home automation and I am always fascinated by some of the idea I read on the Internet. Did you come up with this yourself or is there a list of conditions and triggers with devices somewhere I can use with Home Assistant?
As a European, could you explain College degree, graduate, post graduate, etc. ? We have Bachelor’s and Master’s degree here, I thought we got that from you?
