I’ve been considering adding a wireless door lock to my place, but my home automation platform is entirely self hosted and doesn’t reach out to the net for basically anything.
If there was a way I could leverage the unlimited bandwidth/storage as an offsite backup, that would be amazing, but I’m not sure it would be a great idea backing up stuff to a webserver where there best security I can add it via an .htaccess file.
Your off-site backup solution shouldn’t have to care about that level of security because you should be encrypting your backups before they leave your network. Even if you have a solid backup host in the cloud, you still want to encrypt your backup data before you send it to their hosted repo.
Unless your vendor has a reason to read your backups, they shouldn’t be able to.
Look into FileFlows, I used that after my tdarr server shit the bed to act as my conversion utility for my media libraries. Done a very good job of transcoding my Library into a consistent format.
If you have any inclination to use docker, they offer a generator to make the compose file for you

Audiobookshelf. I’ve started using it this year, and I’ve listened to it every day except for a single day since I started lol. Its amazing to keep track of my podcasts and audiobooks. My only complaint is the app doesn’t do autoplay for podcasts but headset media controls work, and the web client autoplays podcasts, but my media controls don’t work. Even with those minor complaints, its an amazing tool that I don’t know how I’d live without again.
You’re correct, the solar wind is like .5% the energy of the emitted photons and really begins to diminish after only 1.5AU, so they’re even less effective in system without a laser array than I half remembered.
That’s actually not that big of a deal!
Since these craft would be small, they wouldn’t have the power to transmit back to Earth anyway. So with something like this, you would actually want a string of these kind of crafts that you would propel along the same vector so that they could send the data back using each following craft as the next point in the network back to Earth. So each one can take additional pictures to get a resolvable image at the end!
Now, getting them on the same vector is the hard part, since we’re constantly moving through space and won’t have the same launch conditions on subsequent launches, but this is all theoretical at this point anyway.
No, because the solar wind drops off around 100 AU, and the power of the solar wind is going to reduce the farther out you are. These kinds of craft would get much more acceleration from a laser array that can put much more concentrated energy into the sail. But just like the solar wind, it will lose power the farther away from the array it is, along with any kind of intermediary debris attenuating the beam or unfavorable angles between the array and the craft.
So you can get these to an appreciable fraction of the speed of light, but I don’t think we’d be able to get anywhere close to c with this kind of a setup.

Iirc, solar sail designs like this can actually go stupid fast when properly propelled by something like a laser array.
To be fair, 20 years ago your computer would have choked doing 1/10th the stuff either one of those apps do today. Hell, I still remember writing a prank program that would lock up my school computers because I made it beep too fast.
