  • It’s not an MLM or pyramid scheme; it is regular sales employment. You’re not getting other people to sell them for you nor are you encouraged to find others looking to join the sales team. It just sucks dick because the pay is shit (and they go through hoops to pay you less or nothing; which is where the scam part comes in), they treat you like shit, and you have to basically sell them door-to-door.

It’s stupid because the knives are great products; I still have my sample set because they actually rock. They just only sell them like Tupperware clubs and only market them via word of mouth. They’d be making bank if they just sold them to retailers instead of fucking with young people looking for their first job.

  • When I was a kid, I would get in trouble getting those Columbia House offers where they advertise like 12 CDs for one cent; but then charge a subscription fee every month. So I’m not 100% sure what my first one was, because I got 12 of 'em at once.

I know that’s how I discovered Silverchair though. I just picked out their album Frogstomp because I liked the picture of the frog. 🤣

I still like every track on that album. Especially given the shit today where Suicidal Dream is basically my anthem…

  • The final update message given out on RIF suggested Lemmy.World and so, here I am.

    Does it matter?

As I have found with a few niches I’ve been looking for and only found communities on other instances, it may matter. I can see this post even though I am on Lemmy.World and not Lemmy.ml; but some of the other places I’ve wanted to look at are not federated with Lemmy.World or are semi-private and require manual authorization by an admin before you can do anything; and they can’t authorize a user that doesn’t interact with them somehow so I had to make a new account for those instances.

  • When I was 19, I worked on the Pride of America cruise ship. I got on board the last week or two it was in dry dock finishing construction. One of those weeks, they tested the PA system extensively. They did this by playing Queen’s “Radio Ga-Ga” on loop, 24/7. For a week. And there were PA speakers in my cabin.

You ever see a comedy where they do “psychological torture” by playing an unpopular song? This was that, but for real. Every time I hear that fucking song now, I have PTSD flashbacks. The saddest thing was, when I first heard it played there, it was the first time I ever heard it period and I kind of liked it.

    But that ship has sailed.
