  • There’s definitely a racist subtext:

    1. Imagine the Queen criticizing Kate for being “flamboyant.” This word echoes negative racist stereotypes disseminated by white culture of how Black women act and dress. Now to be clear there is nothing flamboyant about this dress and when compared with Kate both dresses are large and grandiose. It’s not just that she’s not “virginal” it’s the “in your face”-ness about it that the Queen has commented on. What did Megan do differently than any other Royal bride on her wedding day to stand out except be black?
    2. it is possible that the dress appears to be whiter because Megan’s skin is darker, which is also subtly racist. Black women need to be relegated to a different shade of white when they’re divorced now? Come on.
    3. Camilla the divorcee wore white on her wedding day to Divorced Charles the 3rd. She just had an ugly - and I might say quite flamboyant - overcoat over it.

  • This is a puff piece by CNBC to distract from the actual work being done by Reps Luna, Gillebrand, Burchett and others and the recent assertions by Dr. Lacatski and Dr. Kelleher that the government DOES have craft in their possession and that they have been authorized by DoD to divulge that.

By claiming “AARO and NASA just want to look at the science!” they’re appealing to people who would take the recent poor excuses for “reports” by those institutions at face value.

The assertion that UAPs haven’t been studied by scientists and have been relegated to conspiracy theory only is such bunk and is truly offensive. They haven’t been studied by the broader scientific community because the government doesn’t share what they know. What about the work of Dr. Hynek, Dr. Kelleher and Dr. Lacatski?

They’re gaslighting us when they’re claiming to be fully transparent when anyone who pays attention to this topic can see they’re really not.

lol I don’t understand why this is being downvoted but ok.

  • I think the point that people are trying to make is that Hamas terrorism isn’t representative of all Palestinian people.

I feel as though the focus should be on eradicating and arresting the terrorist cell not bombing the entire neighborhood where they live, civilians and all. Although I understand that an investigation needs to be completed to determine which group actually carried out the hospital bombing and whether it was deliberate.

I do feel as though as a westerner without formal education or study of the matter I’m not qualified to point fingers in the whole thing other than to say that one atrocity does not justify further atrocity.

  • I would disagree with renting a car.

Get a JR Pass instead - it lets you ride the bullet train unlimited for a specific period of time. This is a steep discount over buying tickets in the country. You need to get this mailed to your house in the US while you are outside of Japan, before you travel. They mail you a voucher and you bring this and pick up your pass at the airport (Japan is big on physical paperwork). Don’t forget to get an eki ben when you ride - it’s part of the experience.

The Ghibli Museum may still be closed to tourists so if you want to do that verify before you go. If it is open to tourists again, you also need to buy your tickets to that from outside Japan, have voucher mailed to home, and pick up as well from JR iirc.

Look into booking TeamLab Borderless (Tokyo) ahead of time, Kabuki is fun, sumo is fun (depending on when you go there may or may not be a basho going on & the city switches), and then just wander around and enjoy temples, sights, and food!!!

Oh yeah also get a suica card ahead of time and you can install it on your phone to tap in the subway and also pay for snacks at Family Mart if I recall correctly.
