I think it isn’t illegal if it can’t grow a plant, so if heated or ground. You can buy ground hempseed, and i think i have some downstairs. Still, imports and such are much trickier, which is probably why they don’t use it for exports. Also other countries may have stricter imports, and perhaps the company doesn’t want the headache of verifying which market to send which product to.

It’s similar to how most companies just conform to Californian restrictions rather than make different products for different states in the US.

I think it’s Hempseed rather than weed itself, but proper Nanami/shichimi togarashi (7 spice blend, roughly translated) has Hempseed. Because of the ban on drugs and such, most exports and US versions exclude it though.

As others mentioned, it does look kinda ridiculous in person. Driving home Sunday with my sister we saw one, pointed and both laughed/chuckled to each other. Your original comment could be taken in various tones and they wanted a clarification. For what it’s worth, it is useful to some to hear it, since it could help people see differences between the US and other countries. It’s just said in a way that felt more like “Butchers don’t do this” rather than “As the contrast, I don’t see this done in my country”. Either way though, in the spirit of the question it is sorta off topic.

It’s like asking “Why does this currency have this person on it?” and getting the answer “I’ve never seen that currency used anywhere I lived.” While true, it’s not really relevant, doesn’t answer the question, and can either be taken as a long winded way to say “I don’t know” or stubborn self centered everything worth knowing is centered around your own experiences. Which is definitely reading into it too much, but there are people who act like that, either as trolls or real jingoists.

True, you’d have to explain that it’s a very vague explanation, and maybe explain its a niche tool for a very specific labor force. I doubt most people have heard or care to hear a detailed explanation of NED Graphics Design and Repeat, nor its use of HASP keys, but I think saying it’s a specific tool for making patterns on clothes and I help make sure the tool works is sufficient. You or the person from a previous time may ask for more details, but especially in older times you could just say I can’t tell you more because my employers don’t want people to copy tools.

Hiding the exact details of your trade was so common back then it caused problems for apprentices, as they were often expected to learn from watching or laboring a long time rather than directly taught.
