#FamilyMan been married for >15 years and have two daughters. Those three girls are my greatest love on this planet.
I consider myself a #GNU Evangelist. Learning about what #FreeSoftware was, including GNU/Linux, opened my eyes to so many things: governments aren’t the only ones stealing individual rights, I know so much less about computers than I thought I did, the idea of code, I can make a difference without having to know anyone particular.
I’m employed as contract Engineer in the Metal industry. My workplace is not yet unionized, but I’m hoping to fix that. #Union member of the #IWW IU440. I don’t have an engineering degree. After discovering Free Software I took my political scientist butt and found a call center job that paid for me to go to Community College to study Software Engineering, where I learned that I liked the idea of coding a lot more than I liked coding. The blessings of God put some great opportunities in my lap at just the right time.
I’m a #Libertarian and have been for over 20 years. The love of libertarianism is what lead me to first to a BS in #political science and later to falling in love with Free Software. These days I lean toward the left side of the libertarian spectrum including being a member of the Libertarian #Socialist Caucus of the Libertarian Party (LSC-LP). Sometimes I call myself a #LibSoc.
I’m a huge #sports fan, but don’t following any particular sport/team super closely. Lately I’ve been getting into #Cricket in addition to my other passions of Professional #Wrestling, Lower Division North American #Soccer, NHL & College #hockey, #baseball #olympics & #rugby (union and #RugbyLeauge). My whole life used to be American #Football, but now-a-days I can’t stand it anymore than I can basketball.
I’m a #BornAgain #Christian, accepting #Jesus as my savior at age 9. Received #Believers Baptism at age 18. Received the baptism of the #HolySpirit as evident in speaking in #tougnes later that year. The #Spirit lead me to the #Catholic #Church at age 20 where I was confirmed at the Easter Vigil. I am a grateful believer in Jesus Christ in #recovery from lust. #XA #SA #CR Currently in the very early stages of discernment for joining the #Ecumenical order of #Fransicans (#OEF).
@JackFromWisconsin @hare_ware yep we had the same after other events like #eternalseptember & #twittermigaration and will be the same with #redditMigration
@dessalines @1337tux but if they’re bots they’d still count as active users assuming they aren’t idle.
In the end, neither really matters, assuming the bots aren’t causing you or your server trouble, like the thousands of posts taghing GNU SOCIAL users repeatedly a couple weeks ago. Could still be happening on instances with absantee admins. (like my original GNU SOCIAL account of @fu@2mb.social)
@realcaseyrollins @GizmoLion @1337tux @DerWilliWonka @TheAngryBad if it’s not a PUBLIC conversation of course you won’t be able to see it on their server if you don’t have an account on that server that is included in the private body (like Friendica’s default of “friends only”)
@GizmoLion @realcaseyrollins @1337tux @DerWilliWonka @TheAngryBad its not likely, but with how the Fediverse works its possible, whether slow federation between certain servers (for example I frequently will have posts Friendica tells me have posted to 130/135 servers within a minute but those last few can take days or never post at all) also you guys might not both see the same conversation based on who you’ve blocked, or been blocked by, etc. If you ever want to verify, you should be able to view it on their instance (on Kbin this is what is listed under MORE as LINK TO FEDIVERSE)
@realcaseyrollins @GizmoLion @1337tux @DerWilliWonka @TheAngryBad meaning you want to sell fedi accounts to capitalists?
@DerWilliWonka @1337tux @TheAngryBad there are cetainly some who do it for the lulz, and there are some who probably do it as a way to encourage others to make security changes to the platform. Personally, I think it would be more useful to file issues via git, but what do I know, I’m just an old-timer who quit college after failing security class, and thereby losing my scholarship.
@DerWilliWonka @1337tux yeah, I’m guessing a lot, I didn’t save the post, but I saw earlier this week some instances that were spun up brand new and in less than an hour had >5,000 users.
One of many reasons to recommend against allowing open sign-up on your instance. A lot htat have been around for longer, like lemmy.ca, require you to request an account, and answer some questions (like why do you want your accoutn on this particularl instance) and a real person clicks the check-mark button.
Some new users will be annoyed by such, but the truth is if they are annoyed by that, they probably aren’t going to be good fedizens open to following good netiquette anyway.
@Tatar_Nobility @Pantherina or you could help your neighbor by contribuiting and partcipating in a federerated FLOSS servcie like #FunkWhale instead.
@Pantherina no, no you don’t. I will say I have been flaburgassted by the number of people on our free and federated network that advertise their love for the freedom denying survailance capitalist “service” of spotify. #FunkWhale4ever
@arthur @Pantherina what’s wrong with just using F-Droid?
@funkyb @Very_Bad_Janet @1337tux those who aren’t willing to do so aren’t likely to be good fedizens willing to practice netiquette.
