I don’t personally want any affiliation with Microsoft, someone please do this, I’ve searched the issues and there are no opening issues about this one.
Self-host yourself is the safest option, I do.
SearXNG, there’s nothing much else to say.
Liftoff’s UI is pretty terrible but the functionality and the snappyness of it is absolutely the strong point.
To keep posts, comments is unlikely to happen. Transferring the sub list and bookmarks or just exporting them should be in the near future, at least with 3rd party apps.
Always better off with SearXNG
Signal is okay as much as privacy is concerned, but it doesn’t solve all the problems with communications in real world. For instance its centralized design means it can be easily blocked, a private Matrix server on the other hand will not even make it on the radar.
The above, not much you can do
It’s pretty solid, probably one of the best clients currently existed.
I deliberately tried exploadingheads with wefwef making sure there’s no censorship with this client.
Huge red flag, I always think France as one of the most free country, I’m so wrong.
They are less invasive on the privacy front, but they also push their products much harder down user’s throat due to less revenue from less accurate ads, just look at DDG’s frontpage.
I also found them self-censoring towards IPs from China, albeit this could be the direct result of using Bing’s search results.
It’s much easier to compare it with something like SearXNG which has the same core principle, without ads, without censorships, without invasive marketing.
To me, Brave or DuckDuckGo are as malicious as Google
Honestly though, I don’t think it’s a bad thing for free press. Some people say “free internet” when we are really talking about cooperative internet. I’d rather people get news from Lemmy than from Google or Facebook.
You better sell them on ebay
Is it open source though?
I’m running it on a remote server.
