The kernel started moving faster, but also the kernel for these devices are orphans. They can never be updated properly because the source code for the kernel modules is not available. The way the phones get updated in ROMs is by back porting changes from the present back to the old orphan. It requires someone super familiar with both kernels to do so. Eventually it becomes untenable. The whole scheme of Android is centered around this source code/orphan kernel scheme. Everything is setup so that hardware manufacturers never have to add their source to the mainline kernel meaning you can never own the device. There is not a single phone or mobile device that you can completely own and running on mainline with available source code. The pixel is all about the TPM chip.

Sustainability is only possible within the elemental cycles. Existence becomes the driving factor. The economy of social hierarchy instead shifts to more advanced forms such as merit and reputation. The most fundamental resource and struggle becomes the heat budget in most instances. This fundamental shift is very important to future history as it creates the technology and engineering mindset that the environmental container is not a valid unlimited resource. Once the technology exists at smaller scales in space, it can be implemented at greater scale on Earth. The financial burden to iterate this tech and refine it to the point where it can be practical on Earth with little cost increase is simply not viable at all, not even for government programs. The big difference is M-type asteroids. Few talk about this, but elemental resource scarcity on any round planet is due to gravitational differentiation. The moment humans access a large M-type astroid (the core of a differentiated planetesimal that has broken up), all wealth accessed in the Holocene is basically irrelevant. The moment that happens, within a generation there will be space colonies. Everything else happening in space is basically taking this into context. Japan in leading the way on prospecting and mining exploration at the moment. They are the most relevant group to watch at the moment.

Leto II is extremely dominant and authoritarian to he point of instability and terrorism and yet at the same time he is also the most altruistic and kind person in the Dune universe. Duncan is the lover ladies man and ideologue but also foolish and impulsive. Siona is a strong women and on of the main characters and yet there is not even the slightest hint of some feminist agenda even though this was written in the 1960’s to 1970’s. Hwi is a beautiful smart woman with depth that is torn between the love of two men. Nayla is a shallow but likable soldier with remarkable loyalty. She is part of an all women’s army called The Fish Speakers. There is even a passage where this army goes out of control and rapes men. This is the only element of the book that I felt like it was clearly delineating Frank Herbert’s stance that the women in this book were in fact a ideological choice and more than just great character building. Yet still, nothing about this was forceful, it was simply amusing in breaking preconceptions of my reality. I highly recommend the read.

Wealth hierarchy will end in a violent and tumultuous way within the next century once the first successful resource acquisition of a M-type astroid in near Earth orbit is achieved. Japan is leading that effort in the present. There is more resource wealth in a single M-type astroid than all of the Earth based resources accessed in the Holocene. That will make wealth as it is now totally irrelevant. The future is in space after we make that transition. At that point, the biggest limitation is cyclical elemental balance and heat budget. Wealth only buys connections and opportunities. It has nothing to do with merit. Multi generation wealth is a massive hindrance to humanity as it removes any connection between merit and achievement and acts as a barrier to humans of real merit. This is why you are fundamentally only a product of your environment and opportunities. Promoting true merit is healthy for humanity, however anyone that is born into wealth has proven nothing and is a destructive obstacle of progress and achievements. These are the indications of corruption exploitation and a failed system when such individuals lead. Intelligence is not genetic. You do not know of the great things Einstein’s parents or children discovered. No community produces better. No gene pool is superior. We are a reflection of the opportunities we have. Probably the best and safest method is to look into the foam used for camera bags. That is the most common customisable option I know of that is practical. You’ll spend way less time and likely money if you cut foam to fit and pack everything.

Obviously, I’m a fan of 3d printing. Heck I’m beside my printer that is chugging away at a design I made today. However. I think it is a matter of using the right tool at the right time. IMO, big drawer filling organizers are not ideal for printing. I can make wood cardboard or sheet metal boxes much faster and cheaper than printing.

I could see myself designing a quick 2 rail holder with slots for each device to sit within, but that is going to be sloppy and likely wear poorly on the device. Best bet in my opinion is camera bag foam. If it is good enough for a half dozen $1k pro primes in a bag that gets banged around, it will work for some hand helds.
