I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic
Honestly the post was almost relatable (a little over the top) until you started getting into Satan and marriage. Like what?
The “I’m trying to impress you” thing was cringe though.
lol you banned a guy because he said you write poorly?
Literally why I ended up on his wiki page. I was googling this as I tried to explain the concept to someone lol
Which was terrible for Japan’s economy. But they’ve come a long way the past couple of years and their inflation has been in a much healthier range lately. There was a good decade where it was often negative, which is pretty bad.
That’s called a closed primary. Many states have open primaries but many are still closed
Nope, not PFAS. Few places have filtration sufficient to address them, from my understanding.
PFAS last a hell of a long time without our intervention
The majority happen within the first year after birth, that’s a long time
I have a few rules, like don’t post something that’s already been posted, don’t post in a community too often, etc. You’re welcome to post things, then I won’t have to post as much. I’m also not sure why it matters who makes a post (please, I wish other people would post more, then I could just read through my feed and spend more time commenting). If you dislike the content, that’s one thing. But there’s no karma on Lemmy, so why does it matter who makes a post?
Subvert expectations /= saying something unexpected. If your point is the Onion has unexpected takes, then I’ll buy that.
I read every article I post and every comment people make on my posts. Sorry if people contributing bothers you. Out of curiosity, how did I piss you off?
Again, I agree with the majority of the deletions. As I said, I pulled 4 of the most recent 20.
Currently, I’m sitting at 10 upvotes and 9 downvotes. Again, my point is that there is no agreement. The votes, in my opinion, demonstrate that.
Ok? That’s still not a subversion of expectations
Did I wonder? No, it was on a legit news site. But Trump throwing a temper tantrum and calling other people names can be (and more importantly, has been) the topic of Onion articles
And that pretty much proves my point about subjectivity. You don’t think so yet other commenters agreed with me. Everyone on here has a different hot take on what “Onion-y” means, largely based on their expectations, not reality. Moderators should lean towards leaving up posts because it’s such a subjective decision.
Do these onion articles subvert any expectations?

https://www.theonion.com/trump-boys-attempt-to-bribe-juror-with-briefcase-full-o-1851509590
The 3 topics are: Trump’s team engages in bribery, Flrodia attacks women, and Biden allows the Gaza genocide. How do those things subvert expectations? Quite the opposite, they play off the obvious
Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satire
Satire is a genre of the visual, literary, and performing arts, usually in the form of fiction and less frequently non-fiction, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, often with the intent of exposing or shaming the perceived flaws of individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into improvement
Satire does not require subversion of expectations
Let’s pretend these articles are real:

Is that not depressing? Depressing news can be Onion-y. I just pulled 2 examples from today’s front page, as you did.
The issue here seems everyone has a different take on what it means to be Onion-y. You mention it can’t be depressing, someone else said it has to subvert expectations, etc. Yet, there are counter-examples for those things from The Onion itself. Again, my point is that “what is Onion-y?” Is an incredibly subjective question. I’d encourage a broad answer to that question when you’re moderating.
Just to be clear, it’s not like the bank explicitly says “yeah, we’ll hide your money for x%”
Banks make money on fees, active management of investments, etc.
