During the Trump presidency, I read a book entitled “They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45”. In it, a journalist gives an account of his interviews with people who had been rank-and-file members of the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany. It really is remarkable what similarities there are.

There are some things that I think will keep the US safe, at least for now. One is that Trump himself is old and will slow down soon. The other thing is that Hitler came to power against democratic institutions that were much, much weaker and younger than what the US has. The Weimar Republic had been established just 15 years prior, whereas the US has had a continuous government for nearly 250 years.

Trump or anyone trying to follow in his stead simply has a lot more in their way. Of course, that’s no reason for complacency.

They’re still helpful in sorting out a 600 calorie meal that’s going to keep someone on track to lose weight versus a 1200 calorie meal that is going to make them gain weight. Even if it’s not exact, it’s a useful guideline.

Wonder Bread is just gross junk food. Also, if you consult the label again, it’s worse than that. The 5g added sugar is for 57g of bread, so it’s nearly 10% sugar by mass.

There are good brands here. I usually get Dave’s Killer Bread. It still has some added sugar, but there are varieties with fairly small amounts.

It’s a bit much.

I’m gay. Personally, I’ve just never had trouble in situations with non-sexual nudity. I’ve been to nude beaches, about ten of my city’s World Naked Bike Ride, and of course locker rooms. Plenty of hot guys around, it’s hard not to notice, but never had the smallest issue with anything being evident. It feels like it’s largely based on the setting.

On the other hand, I’m gay and breasts just don’t do anything for me. Now a guy with a decent set of pecs (but not ridiculously oversized), now we’re talking.

Via the Brennan Center. Elected judges are more punitive and more likely to rule against defendants.

The problem is that the judges often use their decisions to campaign instead of simply applying the law. So they might give an unpopular criminal defendant a harsher sentence to look tough on crime or even tilt a trial against an innocent defendant. Not that doesn’t happen with judges that are appointed by the executive, but it’s usually not as bad.

They’ve tried. Didn’t work out well. I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader, I’m not sure what’s been decided is misinformation.

I work at a university IT department. It’s been a struggle with our auditors to loosen up the password expiration requirements. At least with the students they let anyone with 2FA to go without password expiration, which acts as a nice little carrot-and-stick. But for staff it’s two years (2FA always required), regardless of password quality. I’d rather be able to base password expiration on password quality, personality.

LessPass and similar software has some problems. Things like you can’t simply change your master password, you must then recompute and change every site. It’s also not strictly stateless, since you need to know which password iteration you’re on and the user name. Full fledged password managers also typically provide other secret management features, like API keys, SSH keys, credit/debit cards, and identity cards.

Ah, it’s all good. This discussions can be a little hard to follow in terms of who is responding to who.

Okay, what requires more assumptions:

Biden goes along with a hair brained Trump era plan with a nebulous link to the Trump administration. News media sources have found no link to any official agency, but fortunately we have social media to discover a link (based on nothing). Biden then goes on to prosecute the perpetrators for weapons smuggling. None of the perpetrators complains about a deal being broken.

OR

This only had links to political figures in the Trump administration, but not anyone in the intelligence services. Those figures are long gone. No one bothered to tell Biden on the way out the door. Biden is prosecuting the perpetrators of an operation he allowed for fun and they’re happy to stay quiet while they get imprisoned for running weapons.

All it said is that this group that was not part of the US government was in touch with someone in the Trump administration. That could be literally anyone, likely some Trump sycophant. The Trump administration leaves, attempts a coup on the US presidency on the way out, and now whoever was in contact is probably gone. Then the incoming Biden administration doesn’t even know this bullshit is going on, let alone who’s supposed to be contacted to call this thing quits. Now that same administration is prosecuting them for running weapons.

I’m well aware of the history of covert CIA involvement in Latin America, at least in broad strokes. But you’re still making assumptions to get to “why didn’t Biden immediately shut this down?” Just apply Occam’s Razor, he couldn’t shut it down because the Trump administration used unofficial side channels.

The article makes no mention of the CIA. The plotters were not only non-governmental but also violated US law (not that the CIA hasn’t done that before). They were in contact with the “Trump administration,” but that could be anyone. Given Trump’s distrust of the intelligence services, I suspect any operations would have side stepped them.
