I’ve seen them in the wild, I live in the bay area. They look worse than in the pictures. The brushed steel catches every speck of dirt and oil. It’s like they’re driving a damn crock-pot.
I thought RAID1 enabled faster reads too, because both drives have the complete file. Writes don’t get a speed bump ofc, since those are still bottlenecked by the slowest single drive in the array
It’s not a block on these sites, it’s there to prevent porn and piracy sites from showing up in the “suggested” page that every privacy conscious user already turned off completely.
Check that your client is whitelisted by the tracker. Some trackers wait to approve the newest versions of qBittorrent.
I don’t run anything on the server because I don’t need to. I have my home server mounted as a network drive in Windows, so I just point Kopia’s database at a folder in there. It’s stored as an encrypted backup, and I’ve got the config for Kopia backed up in a few places (and the encryption key as well) so if the worst case scenario happens to my PC I’ll just reinstall Kopia on a fresh windows install + HDD, restore the config from the backup, then restore the backup.
I also have a backup target to an older 8TB drive that I leave with a friend and update whenever he visits for extra safety, if my whole apartment with my PC and server burns down I’ll at least be able to have an outdated snapshot and lose only a month or so instead of decades.
Oh I need to try this. I hate getting flashbanged when I go to an add-on page (Dark reader my beloved)
KopiaUI is fantastic and easy to use. I used to run Duplicati but it had database issues that kept coming up and forcing a sixty-hour rebuild process every couple weeks and I wasn’t happy with the idea of my PC potentially failing during one of those six days per month.
Everything I personally use works on the beta version through the collection method.
Child sexual abuse material - underage porn. For obvious reasons, you don’t want this to be something you’re hosting automatically out of your basement server.
I dunno about this one chief, given the blurb for the actual extension seems to be rather poorly machine translated into English.
The account looks more real. A ten year reddit account with a bunch of real comments and 100k karma looks like a human being, so when they post something like “Razer mice have really gotten amazing over the past couple years! I have the new Naga and I couldn’t live without it” on the PC gaming subreddit, there’s a higher chance that looks like a real recommendation from a real human than a paid ad.
Isn’t using an alternate discord client bannable under Discord TOS?
If peer tube has lag and doesn’t support high definition / multiple resolutions per video, it’ll never get enough popularity that storage / bandwidth become issues.
So, the Spez excuse?
For now. This is step one of enshittification. Step 2 is enabling it for new accounts by default. Step 3 is removing the ability for new accounts to turn it off. Step 4 is defaulting it on for legacy users, and step 5 makes it mandatory for everyone that isn’t paying for something.
If funding enters the picture, capitalism means that it’ll eventually shift towards profit (or in some cases “not operating at a severe loss”). Something based on BitTorrent might be one of the only capitalism-proof solutions for handling video, but that of course has its own problems (most people that create video content like to be able to delete it, for example)
Peertube is one of the oldest federated software projects. It’s a lot less sustainable than ActivityPub platforms because storing HD video is much much more expensive than what Lemmy instances currently do. Lemmy as a platform with a few federated home servers could feasibly replace Reddit, Mastodon could feasibly replace Twitter, but if PeerTube ever got mainstream enough to handle even 0.01% of YouTube’s traffic/hosting footprint it’d be impossible to deal with the associated costs.
If there’s a personal information field, filling it with random noise is marginally better than leaving it blank. The pronouns field is new but I’ve noticed a lot of women friends (that have gender neutral usernames and profile pics, and no linked social media) opting to not use it or set it to he/him because having it filled out accurately caused trolls and bots and incels to fill their DMs.
