Whoops! I forgot to mention that I have a tech friend that gave me a free profile/account that I use with the OpenVPN client.
Using a VPN solved this problem for me. If you don’t want to pay for a VPN, then use OpenVPN Connect.
Beeper is partially open source and I’ve used it for many years now.
I understand and completely agree from someone who is knowledgeable about this subject matter. However, MOST people are NOT. To clarify again, (and this is something that is getting very annoying to repeat over and over again) the general public have almost NO knowledge about the differences between operating systems.
Microsoft Windows is heavily marketed and, for most of the general public that aren’t aware of Linux, is a cheaper option compared to Apple/Mac/iOS.
I worked with/on Windows for two decades. Through those years I became more and more frustrated with the bugs and vulnerability to outside attacks. Windows is going to be attacked more, and for other reasons, because it is used by more people (a greater attack surface to exploit).
Back in 2008 I switched to Apple/Mac/iOS. I have never regretted it.
IF you have the time/knowledge (which most of the general public doesn’t have) to use Linux, then I’d recommend it.
Please, stop with this ‘fan-boy’ shit about operating systems. Use logic and rational thinking which I believe that I’ve shown above.
I’ve edited it into the body of the post. https://archive.is/TcoAi
I believe that Mr. Galloway addresses most of the problems in his Ted Talk: How the US Is Destroying Young People’s Future | Scott Galloway | TED
Very good “Explain Like I’m Five” there!
I can’t give you a date. However, I can say it will be very soon.
Thanks for clearing that up!
Maybe so. We should, probably, ask @Penguincoder@beehaw.org about this.
It’s my understanding that it will…I believe that’s, also, what it means when they (Sublinks developers) said it would be “Lemmy compatible”.
It will be “Lemmy compatible”, so hopefully all of Lemmy apps should work fine.
Correct. We’re moving to Sublinks very soon. Buckle up.
I’ve used Firefox for so many years…can’t remember precisely. If there was a better option, then I’d be open to it.
I am just, slightly, concerned about this. If the Matrix protocol shits the bed entirely, then I’ll be happy to wait for the next wave of innovators to solve this.
That may sound dismissive to some, but I’ve already lived through things like this happening.
Over thirty years I’ve seen so many tremendous leaps in telecommunications. I’m not too worried.
We can still find engagement in small niche subs on Reddit. We’ve known, for many years, that people were going to move away from large corporate-controlled sites such as Reddit, Twitter etc…
The Fediverse is addressing this. It isn’t a panacea. However, it is a re-imagining of what we want the Internet to be.
There are many others, that will come along after us, to address this further.
This belongs in c/space. You can move it there if you want. Your choice.
I had, simply, forgotten that my friend had given me a free account.
