Hmm… I may have to try Manjaro again, but the simple fact that there are 2 GUI package managers is not a great sign for total noobs. The main reason I’ve been staying away from it tho is the cert controversy and the arch repo ddos.

Yeah I know it has a GUI app for installing software, though IIRC isn’t it more similar to something like Synaptic than GSoftware?
I’ve actually had pretty bad experiences with Manjaro. No. 1, it cones with a lot of “apps” that aren’t obvious in what they do, and package management on Arch and Arch-based distros is very very not obvious to beginners (Syu? What does Syu mean. Wait, you mean I’m updating my whole system every time I want to install something? Where’s GNOME Software? Etc)
So… Windows?
Any particular reason you want Gab and not Mastodon that it’s based on?
That’s super cool, and actually useful cause it tells you something as opposed to being inactive text.
Sounds like I might be the youngest here lol. I started with Ubuntu 11.04 which I would live boot off CD in my school laptop. After I got my own laptop with Windows 8, I used Windows for a good long while until the thing got super slow after having windows 10 for a while. That’s when I got back in to linux.
An excellent summary. I think instance owners shouldn’t be too quick to block threads. ActivityPub was built around low trust, so why not give them a chance?
Personally, I host Sandstorm, and Discord music bot, and Minecraft.
Currently a Fedora guy, and have been for a while. Who knows if that will change tho…
My favorite has been Sandstorm.io ever since I discovered it. Sure, it doesn’t look as pretty as the others, but it’s super easy if you use one of their free hostnames.
